New Delhi. The government assured the strikers who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for two days to resolve their grievances. After this, the wrestlers ended their strike on Friday night. As a first step to address their grievances, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been attacked, is relieved of his post as president. After the second round of talks with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, other wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Banjrag Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya decided to end their strike.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said after the athletics meeting that a decision has been taken to form a monitoring committee whose names will be announced on Saturday. The committee will complete the investigation within four weeks. It will thoroughly investigate all allegations of financial or sexual abuse against WFI and its president. He said that until the investigation is completed, Brij Bhushan Singh will remain independent from the federation and will cooperate in the investigation, while the monitoring committee will look after the day-to-day work of the WFI.
