If BCCI sources are to be believed then the hosting of the Asia Cup to be held in September can be shifted from Pakistan to some other place. The tournament is either expected to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will retain the hosting rights, or Sri Lanka could be looked at as another option. The recent bomb blast in Peshawar has again raised concerns about the safety of players in Pakistan. In December last year, ACC chairman Jay Shah released the schedule of the continental tournament and the venue of the Asia Cup was not mentioned. After this, Najam Sethi accused Shah of taking a unilateral decision. Later the ACC officially denied this allegation and told that continuous emails were sent to Pakistan Cricket Board regarding this program but no response was received.

There was a ruckus after Jai Shah’s statement
BCCI President Jai Shah had said in October 2022 that Team India will not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. He also said that it can be shifted somewhere else. Rameez Raja, who was the chairman of the PCB at that time, had also threatened to withdraw from the ODI World Cup in India in October if this happened. However, in his place, Nazam Sethi distanced himself from such statements. He had said in January 2023 that there would be a meeting of the ACC Executive Board on February 4 in Bahrain on Asia Cup and India’s participation. It will be decided.
