The Indian High Commission on Saturday tweeted, “PM @rishisunak makes a special gesture by briefly attending India-UK NSA talks between Sir Tim Barrow and Mr Doval.” The Indian High Commission further said in the tweet, PM Rishi Sunak appreciates the reassuring attitude of the government on strategic partnership in trade, defense, S&T. India looks forward to hosting Sir Tim’s visit to India soon. Significantly, Ajit Doval is on a visit to the UK at a time when debate is on over the controversial BBC documentary targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 2002 Gujarat riots.

India and the UK share a comprehensive strategic partnership with each other. Both the countries are also in the middle of talks for a free trade agreement, out of which six rounds of talks have been completed. After becoming PM, Rishi Sunak indicated that he would take a different approach to trade deals than his predecessor Liz Truss. Sunak had said, ‘My approach would be one where we don’t sacrifice quality for speed.’ At the same time, he had said that he is completely dedicated to the agreements with India. Although Truss was prime minister for only a few weeks, her administration as trade minister set the tone for Britain’s negotiations.
