Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi was convicted under both sections 147 and 323 of the IPC. In section 147 of the IPC, he was sentenced to one year and a fine of five thousand, while in section 323 of the IPC, he was sentenced to a sentence of six months and a fine of five thousand.
In case of non-payment of the fine, he shall undergo ten days of separate imprisonment. However, despite the announcement of the sentence, the membership of the assembly of Minister Nandi will not be lost as the membership will only be canceled after a sentence of 2 years or more. The court also released Minister Nandi on surety and bail. Minister Nandi was booked under serious sections during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Minister Nandi was accused of assaulting former SP MP Revati Raman Singh at a public meeting. It is said that on May 3, 2014, a public meeting of SP MP and candidate Revati Raman Singh was held at Muthiganj police station in the city. At that time, Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, who contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Congress party, and his supporters created a ruckus in the public meeting and beat the SP supporters with sticks.
It is said that with the encouragement of Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, his supporters turned violent. Many Samajwadi Party supporters were injured in this attack. It is said that Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and his supporters also abused Dalit workers of the Samajwadi Party using casteist words. SP worker Venkataraman Shukla filed a case against Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and his supporters at Muthiganj police station. A case has been registered against Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and his supporters under serious sections. However, in the name of Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, a cross FIR was filed against former SP MP Revati Raman Singh and his supporters.
After this incident, there was much commotion at Muthiganj police station. Station in-charge Indrajit Chaturvedi registered a separate case against all the activists including Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and his wife mayor Abhilasha Gupta. The court gave its verdict on the FIR case filed by SP worker Venkataraman Shukla.
