Kyiv, February 5: Dozens of Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have been freed in the latest prisoner exchange. Officials from both sides confirmed this on Saturday. Andrey Ermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said in a telegram post that 116 Ukrainians had returned home, Xinhua news agency reported, while Russia’s state news agency TASS said 63 Russian soldiers had been released.
Ermak also said that Russia has returned to Ukraine the bodies of two British voluntary aid workers and a volunteer soldier of the International Army of Ukraine. Also read: America shoots down China’s surveillance balloon, China threatens to face consequences
This exchange took place after the mediation of the United Arab Emirates. Which has been active in reconciliation efforts between the two countries since the beginning of the conflict. By early January, more than 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers remained in Russian captivity.
