The Government of India has announced the Padma Awards on the eve of Republic Day. In this, the government has announced Padma Vibhushan to 6 people, Padma Bhushan to 9 people and Padma Shri award to 91 people. A total of 106 people are being given the Padma Award this year. PM Modi has congratulated all the awardees. These names include former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Karnataka CM SM Krishna, ORS founder Dilip Mahalanabis and Super 30 founder Anand Kumar.
Who is this who has received the Padma Vibhushan Award
Mulayam Singh Yadav
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav has been given posthumously. Mulayam Singh died in Delhi on October 10 last year. Mulayam has served three times as the Chief Minister of UP and in 1996 he served as the Defense Minister of the country. Mulayam had obtained PG degree from Agra University. He was considered a socialist leader.
Dilip Mahalnabis
Padma Vibhushan is being given to Dilip Mahalanabis, the father of ORS. He died last year in Kolkata at the age of 87 in October. He was a resident of West Bengal. During the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, he had saved the lives of lakhs of people by building ORS. According to an estimate, about 5 crore lives are saved every year due to ORS.
SM Krishna
SM Krishna’s full name is Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, he is also being given the Padma Vibhushan Award this year. He has been the CM of Karnataka. He has been the CM between 1999 and 2004. Apart from this, he has served as the Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. Apart from this, he has taken charge as the foreign minister of the country between 2009 and 2012 in Manmohan Singh’s government. He was born on 1 May 1932.
