Now Dharma Censor Board will also review films

Religion Censor Board: You must be aware of the Central Board of Film Certification or Censor Board of India, where films, TV, serials and various types of visual material are reviewed. This board works under the Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India. But very recently such a censor board has been formed which is going to work without being under the control of the government.

Dharma Censor Board will review films

Yes, at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the saints ‘Religion Censor Board’ has been formed. This board is going to investigate the insult of Hindu deities and culture in films, documentaries, web series and other mediums of entertainment. Under this, a 10-member censor board has been formed under the chairmanship of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati to prevent defamation of Hindu traditions. This has not become a very strange thing. Did society and films need it? what ‘Religion Censor Board’ Is it appropriate to set up? Would this have happened if the Censor Board had amended its rules in time? Let’s discuss this.

religion censor board Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has said that many people related to religion and culture have been included in this board. However, at present, he himself is handling the chairmanship of this board. According to him, this board is going to act as a guide to stop any filming or telecast of video or audio that insults Hindu deities or denigrates the culture.

The Dharma Censor Board has also released its guidelines. If objectionable content or scene against Sanatan Dharma is shown in any film or serial, then pressure will be made by the Dharma Censor Board to remove it. Still, if the content or scene is not removed, legal action will be taken against it. According to Swami Avimukteshwaranand, this action will be legal as well as social, which can have a direct impact on the earnings of film producers and directors.

Now one thing is to be noted here that this Dharma Censor Board does not have any kind of authority from the government or the Censor Board. This board is formed by only some Hindu gurus or sadhus. Here the biggest question also arises that why there was a need to set up the Religion Censor Board in this way? Tomorrow, if people belonging to other religions, be it Muslim or Christian, they also formed similar boards on the basis of their respective religions? What will happen then? In plain words, if this happens, everything will move towards anarchy, that is, everything will be chaotic. Due to this, neither any film will be released nor will the censor board have any importance.

Why was there a need for this?

But the biggest question that arises here is that why did the Hindu saints have to form the Parliament of Religions in this way? If seen, the censor board is running on the old thread. For a long time no improvement is being seen in the rules of the Censor Board. The censor board passes all the films due to certain prescribed criteria. After this, when objectionable scenes regarding any religion are shown in a film, then its protest starts.

By the way, Bollywood has been hurting the sentiments of Hindus for a long time. But it has been seen for some time that Hindus have started speaking openly against it, due to which we keep seeing ruckus about one or the other film, advertisement or web series. For example, take Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathan. What kind of ruckus is happening at the moment regarding Pathan and saffron bikini.

Many films have been opposed in the same way in the last few years. Take Padmavat for example. Where the film got the green signal from the censor board. Later, the film was opposed by the Karni Sena due to controversy over praise of Alauddin Khilji, promotion of Jauhar and dance in traditional Ghoomar song. Not only this, on the release of this film, due to the fear of violence, police were deployed in theaters of many states. On the other hand, if we talk about the film PK, then here also people in the film had asked to ban it and remove it on some scenes, accusing them of hurting religious sentiments. At the same time, the censor board refused to do so. Not only this, there are many other films which were opposed. If the censor board had considered all these films beforehand, it might not have happened. Sometimes, due to protests against films, things get so bad that it reaches to violence.

Censor board needs reform

In such a situation, if the censor board does not want people of every religion and caste to form separate censor boards and review films, then it is very important for them to make many changes at their level. Films should be reviewed in such a way that they do not hurt the sentiments of people belonging to any religion or caste. If the film censor board works properly, then no such separate religion will need its own censor board. So now the time has come that if the censor board has to maintain its relevance then it should wake up.
