A former senior Indian diplomat said on Wednesday that India and the US are set for better relations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he has a deep understanding of the country’s national interests and is a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). From the time of his tenure as an official, he knows better what attitude should be adopted with Washington. TP Srinivasan, India’s deputy ambassador to the US from 1997 to 2000, made the remarks ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s proposed visit to Washington in June. Modi will leave for his first official visit to Washington in June at the invitation of US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden. The Biden couple will also host a state banquet in Modi’s honor on June 22.
