India defeated South Africa by 27 runs in the first match of the tri-series (SA-W vs IN-W) in the tour of South Africa. Batting first, the Indian team scored 147/6 in 20 overs, in reply, the South African team could only score 120/9 after playing the entire over. India’s Amanjot Kaur was selected as the man of the match.
After losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team suffered a big setback for 14 runs and captain Smriti Mandhana was victimized by Ayabonga Khaka for a personal score of 7 runs in the third over. Harleen Deol was dismissed for 34 with 8 runs. Jemima Rodriguez couldn’t even open her account and carry on. The second opener Yastika Bhatia played an innings of 35 runs. Indian team lost their fifth wicket on 69 runs and Devika Vaidya was dismissed for 9 runs. From here it looked like the Indian team might not score big but veteran Deepti Sharma (33) and debutant Amanjat Kaur batted brilliantly and added 76 runs for the sixth wicket to take the score to 145. Amanjat remained unbeaten with 41 runs off 30 balls. South Africa’s Nonkululeko Malaba took the maximum two wickets.
Chasing the target, South Africa got off to a poor start and Laura Wolverde was dismissed for 9 for 6. Second opener Anneke Bosch also fell victim to Rajeshwari Gaikwad for 27 runs. Marijan Kapp tried to save but her innings ended with a personal score of 22 runs. Captain Sune Luce contributed 29 runs. Delmy also failed to open the account and South Africa lost the fifth wicket for 64 runs. Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk tried to hold their side together, adding 39 runs for the sixth wicket. Radha Yadav broke the pair and Trian was dismissed for 103 after scoring 26 runs. De Klerk scored 16 and Sinalo Jafta scored 11 runs but could not win the team. Deepti Sharma took maximum three wickets for India.
