Clashes broke out between security forces and Khan’s supporters outside the judicial complex here on Saturday ahead of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appearance in a court in a corruption case. Islamabad police chief Akbar Nasir Khan told the media that Khan’s supporters pelted stones at the police and set police pickets on fire.

“The police force is handling the situation with patience,” he said. Khan arrived in Islamabad from Lahore to appear in the court. Along with the former prime minister, he also has his supporters. Three vehicles in Khan’s motorcade met with an accident on the M-2 motorway near Kalar Kahar area, but no casualties were reported. Khan (70) appeared in the Lahore High Court on Friday and assured that he was ready to appear on Saturday before Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal, who is hearing the corruption case against him.

Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, is under scrutiny for buying gifts, including an expensive wristwatch. Khan had acquired these gifts at a discounted price from Toshakhana during his tenure as Prime Minister and sold them for profit.
