Quito. A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck western Ecuador, killing 14 people and injuring more than 300. “14 dead, 381 injured,” the presidential press office tweeted on Saturday. Earlier, Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso said the earthquake had killed 12 people, 11 in El Oro and one in Azuay.
A magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck western Ecuador on Saturday, causing damage in northern Peru. RPP (Radio Programas del Peru) said a four-year-old girl died Saturday after a roof collapsed in Tumbes province, which borders Ecuador.
According to reports, as soon as the tremor was felt, people came out of their homes and onto the streets. The epicenter of the quake is reported to be about 80 km south of Guayas. Meanwhile, Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso released a message on social media urging people to keep the peace.
