New Delhi, 8 February (IAS). Delhi VK Deputy Governor Saxena has sent a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Hatter urging an immediate meeting between Delhi and Haryana to find a permanent solution to the Yamuna pollution.
Although he assured Haryana Irrigation Authority to set up an STP to pre-treat sewage to the Najafgarh drainage channel, no concrete progress has been made so far, thus calling for an early meeting. I reminded the Hatter of what I had done.
In the letter, LG noted that it had had telephone discussions with the Chief Minister of Haryana about the treatment issues of the Param Vihar Drainage (L1), Dharampur Drainage (L2) and Badshapur Drainage (L3). Industrial waste being discharged from Haryana into Najafgarh drainage was mentioned.
In a letter calling for joint action by the two states of Delhi and Haryana, LG said that the discharge of toxic substances from the Najafgar drain into the Yamuna river would affect not only the people of Delhi NCR, but also the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. .
Earlier, LG discussed the issue of Yamuna pollution at the Northern Zone Council meeting in Jaipur on 9 July 2022. A follow-up meeting was then convened by the Federal Secretary of the Interior on 26 July.
The Haryana Irrigation Authority’s 2022 advertisement guaranteed the installation of STPs to ensure 100% treatment of sewage before discharge into Najafgarh’s drainage canals.
