These These days Chinese people and Chinese-origin people and overseas Chinese in various places around the world are celebrating their traditional festival – the Spring Festival, in a strong festive atmosphere. According to the Chinese calendar, from the 1st to the 15th day of the first month of the year, the Spring Festival is a festival for Chinese families to reunite, say goodbye to the old times, and welcome the new year. According to the Chinese calendar, January 26 is the fifth day of the first month, according to the custom of the traditional Chinese New Year, it is called “Fowu”. On this day, there is a custom in China called “elimination of the five poor” (i.e. poor in intellect, poor in study, poor in culture, poor in life, and poor in friendship). From early morning, people burst crackers and clean the house.
It expresses the Chinese people’s wish to drive away evil spirits, eliminate disasters, welcome good fortune and happiness. “Fowu” also means “farewell to the old year”. After this day, everything will slowly come back to normal before New Year’s Eve. On the other hand, Republic Day is celebrated in India on 26 January. The festival commemorates the establishment of the Republic of India on January 26, 1950, when the Constitution came into force. Since 1950, every year on 26 January, a grand parade and celebration ceremony is held on the route between Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate in New Delhi.
Republic Day activities mainly consist of two parts, the military parade and the parade of tableaux, which is a grand ceremony for India to showcase its national military might and cultural diversity. China and India are close neighbors of each other. As ancient civilizations with a long history and brilliant civilization, Chinese and Indian cultures share many similarities and fusions. Both cultures are diverse, giving importance to family ethics and respect for traditions. January 26 is the meeting day of Chinese “Spring Festival” and Indian “Republic Day”, which will bring different festival experience for Indians in China and Chinese people in India.
People of both countries feel the different customs of each other’s festival, enjoy the beauty of each other’s festival cultures and promote traditional friendship in mutual understanding. China and India are the two most populous and largest developing countries and ancient civilizations in the world. At present, the people of both countries are working hard and making efforts for the country’s development and national rejuvenation. At the beginning of the new year in 2023, important festivals of both the countries are meeting at this time. Taking this as an opportunity, wish that both China and India can achieve greater development, learn from each other, promote cultural exchanges and deepen friendship between peoples.
