At least 42 people, including women and children, were killed when a speeding passenger bus rammed into a bridge pillar and fell into a gorge in Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Sunday. Officials gave this information. Lasbela’s assistant commissioner Hamza Anjum said the bus carrying at least 48 passengers was on its way from the provincial capital Quetta to Karachi, the capital and main city of Sindh province. The bus hit a pillar on the bridge and caught fire after falling into a ditch. Anjum told the media that the accident happened due to over speeding in Lasbela area.
“While taking a U-turn near Lasbela, the bus hit a bridge pillar, fell into a gorge and then caught fire,” he said. Anjum said that so far 42 bodies have been recovered from the accident site. Only three people, including a child and a woman, could be rescued alive, the official said. He told that the number of people who lost their lives in the accident may increase. A total of 48 passengers were traveling in the bus at the time of the accident, the official said.
He said it was difficult to identify the bodies and hence DNA test would be done to identify the dead. According to officials, police and rescue officials are busy in pulling out the bodies and taking them to nearby hospitals. Home Affairs Minister Rana Sannaullah expressed grief over the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
