Dhaka. Dhaka-based film actress Mahiya Mahi was arrested on Saturday from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a case registered under the Digital Security Act (DSA). According to the report, Mahiya Mahi went live from her Facebook page accusing the police. Confirming this, GMP’s Assistant Commissioner (AC, Media-DB) Asaduzzaman said that Ghazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) arrested the actress around 11 am, when she was returning from Saudi Arabia. She has returned after making a pilgrimage to Mecca.
Two cases were registered against Mahiya Mahi and her husband for defaming the police through Facebook Live and for their alleged involvement in extortion, assault with a businessman. Basan police station’s sub-inspector Rokon Mia has registered a case against Mahi and her husband Rakib Sarkar under the Digital Security Act, while businessman Ismail Hussain has filed a complaint against 28 people, including the couple, at Basan police station for assault, vandalism and forcible land grabbing. Charges have been filed.
